ISU vs. Texas

Welcome- Iowa State Cyclones vs. No. 22 Texas Longhorns

Hey women's basketball fans. I'm Chris Conetzkey, sports editor at the Iowa state Daily, and I'll be taking you along with me courtside for tonights game against Texas.

Here's some things I noticed before we started.

1.) Texas is big...I mean huge. It's going to be a factor tonight...watch.
2.) Heather Ezell isn't starting tonight.
3.) I'm hungry because I arrived late and didn't eat the food provided (more later)
4.) Nice crowd... I know Colorado is jealous.

18-5 ISU?

The Cyclones are shooting well. Any time they can shoot, they can beat anybody. The last few games, they have had terrible shooting problems. Last weekend against Oklahoma State they shot under 30 percent from the field for the game. Texas is also going with a smaller lineup, and the Cyclones are doing a fine job defending it. I thought they would go big and try and beat us inside.... Guess im not the coach.

I have a reader 22-14 ISU 5 :30 left first half (7:25 p.m.)

I think the Texas coach might be reading my blog. As I posted my last entry, they subbed in 6-4 forward Ashley Lindsey. Her along with the 6-3 Tiffany Jackson are giving Texas a presence in the middle. They've already had two blocks since coming in the game.

Foul Trouble 29-22 ISU 1:58 left first half (7:44 p.m.)

Ashley Lindsey has commited three fouls since coming off the bench. She's back where she started now. Things might open for the cyclones now.

Half Time 34-22 ISU (7:48)

Gymnastics...Cody you there??? (7:54 p.m.)

Well first colorado was jealous, now I know my assistant Cody Saveraid is jealous. We get a half time show with the ISU gymnastics team. This is for you cody, Gymnastics competes this weekend against Nebraska on Friday night at 7 p.m. Go see them. Cody says it's fun to watch.

They just did a couple handstand competitions....Yeah, I can do that... I'm serious.

Half analysis (8:00 p.m.)

The atmosphere has been great tonight, and I think that is really giving the Cyclones an advantage. Like I said earlier, the women are all shooting the ball well 38 percent, and are playing good defense. Texas has been out of rythm all night shooting only 25 percent from the field. The Cyclones have had good intensity throughout, and need to keep it up and not back off, even with a 12 point lead. This could be the win that Iowa State needs to get back on the right track. There could be an upset in the works here... just thank Hilton Magic.

Hilton Magic 39-30 ISU 13:30 left 2nd half (8:15)

Last nights crowd at the men's Iowa State-Colorado game was absolutely pathetic. So was the way the Cyclones played, but thats beside the point. Iowa State really is fortunate to have fans like we do. I mean the crowd drawn by the women here tonight probably quadruples or more the crowd at Colorado last night. Speaking of good fans, go to espn.com and vote for the Cyclones as the number one school for school spirit. We're currently No. 1! I really don't know how were beating schools like Duke, but hey, if were voting, doesn't that show more school spirit?

Overated? 47-38 ISU 7:41 remaining 2nd half (8:30 p.m.)

Texas really hasn't been as dominating as as I thought they would be. Physically they should have an edge, but it really hasnt translated. Texas is hanging close though, and really I probably just jinxed the Cyclones, so I'll stop typing.

Medders coming alive 52-42 ISU 5:56 remaining 2nd half (8:35 p.m.)

Medders just hit a three, then came right down and hit a jumper. She could be the difference when it's all said and done. If she stay's hot down the last 5 minutes or so, the Cyclones can go ahead and take the upset win.

Blogger craps out

So the Cyclones are about to pull off the upset, and I've had plenty of things to talk about for the last 20 minutes, but I couldn't. Maybe it was for the best. I wasn't able to keep writing and jinx Iowa State.
